This is a story of vampires as I believe they should be, with their strengths and weaknesses, with their remnants of humanity and the beast inside. Updates every Friday. Mind the tags.

Excellent.

This book reminds me of the film 'interview with a vampire' in it's scope and approach.
It's excellently written, with detailed world-building, a compelling plot and sympathetic characters. It's written with a warmth and humour balanced with frequent bouts of ultra-violence.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes good writing, but especially to fans of progression fantasy who fancy something a bit different.

Journey of Black and Red

Amazing story with great world building! I was able to power through it in 2 weeks, and I would love to see a future Arian story. Thanks to the author for taking the time to write an amazing, comprehensive, and well edited story. Well worth 5 stars if you love vampires!

I don't understand
Reviewed at: 26. Self-Discovery
It is a well written book with a compelling background and character development. I appreciate the depth of details the author showcases and I understand how everything works. Good grammar, lack of repetiveness, and intriguing characters are present. All of this combined together should be a great book BUT I just don't feel anything. I couldn't care less about the politics or tragic backstories or redemption or change. Maybe it's just me but it feels like real life and all its problems but with weird powers. I read to escape not to be reminded of how shitty our world can be

If theres better vampire fiction out there, I havent seen it.
Overall a great adventure story with a side of explosions and city building. Really great to see how vampires affect the history of the States over the book. I'm a little surprised to see middling reviews mention that the story changes from its initial content--what did you expect?
Anyway definitely recommend reading!

Great vampire perspective!

This is one of my favorite stories here on RR. No stat blocks, just plain good fantasy writing. I feel like this is a great vampire perspective. Not weak willed, not squeamish or afraid to kill people, not overly fond of humans, but a much more "realistic" view of a vampire's life that still makes you love the main character.

Read it.

Very few stories are crafted as well as this one. It has been a joy to read it. Good characters, good jokes, and wonderfully woven plot lines. I personally really enjoyed the complexity of the monsters, and how they interacted with the mundane world. It made the supernatural world feel more fluid and alive. My only complaint is that it I can't enjoy it for the first time all over again.

Stellar Series

Honestly, I don't think I've read a story that did such an amazing job of crafting a world before. Everything about this series just speaks volumes about the meticulous thought and care that went into every single aspect of it.
The level of attention to detail is astounding, the characters are so vibrant and unique. There's a steady blend of characters that creates a dynamic cast without being overwhelming as new characters are introduced to the plot.
The world itself has such a refreshing take on the early era US. I usually don't enjoy revolutionary-civil war era takes on fiction, but the cohesive blend of fantasy/supernatural makes it an amazing read, keeping much of the same history but different in just the right ways to make it believable.
It was amazing to see how Ariane grew throughout the series, starting from fledgling vampire to becoming a force of nature that people had to acknowledge.
All in all, this story is genuinely one of my favorites. I'm sad to see this story finished, but glad it was such an amazing journey, pun intended. I'll be coming back to it in a year or so to re-read once I've forgotten enough about the story for it to be fresh again.

Human to Vampire Mindset + Low to High Fantasy

Although the first few chapters are rough, the story quickly evolves into the Main Character having to deal with no longer being human. Setting starts in late 1700s North America.
Pros: Nails the inhuman mindset and is great at translating that to the reader. A walk through history for an immortal.
Cons: The transition to High Fantasy elements is a bit world breaking, especially when the historic timeline starts to go purely fictional.

Vampires that don't suck

This is a fantastic story. I was a bit hesitant to try it, as at this point, there is so much bad vampire fantasy that it seemed almost impossible that any could actually be good. I am glad to say that Red and Black has dashed all my expectations.
A great blend of darkness and humor, R&B is a shoe in for one of the best stories on RR. Great characters, excellent writting, plenty of drama and a decent amount of action. Vampires as they should be.
Potential readers should know that the story has a pretty strong writting style. You will probably either hate or love it depending on how this style of writting works for you.

i don't like vampires

It took me ages to give this book a try, and I am so glad I did. I usually avoid books about vampires, I find them mostly cringe inducing and hard to read about. this is a vampire done right. It was incredibly satisfying from beginning to the end. I immediately went over to bob, (which is also great). and now I'm out of things to read again:(
