Mother of Learning
by nobody103
Zorian is a teenage mage of humble birth and slightly above-average skill, attending his third year of education at Cyoria's magical academy. He is a driven and irritable young man, consumed by a desire to ensure his own future and free himself of the influence of his family, whom he resents for favoring his brothers over him. Consequently, he has no time for pointless distractions or paying attention to other people's problems.
As it happens, time is something he is about to get plenty of. On the eve of the Cyoria's annual summer festival, he is killed and brought back to the beginning of the month, just before he was about to take a train to Cyoria. Suddenly trapped in a time loop with no clear end or exit, Zorian will have to look both within and without to unravel the mystery before him. And he does have to unravel it, for the time loop hadn't been made for his sake and dangers lurk everywhere...
Repetition is the mother of learning, but Zorian will have to first make sure he survives to try again - in a world of magic, even a time traveler isn't safe from those who wish him ill.

Mother of Learning is now available for sale on Amazon. The story will remain available in full here on bestuseller.com and on Fictionpress, but if you're more interested to read the story as a Kindle Edition e-book you now have a way to do that.
The audiobooks can be found on this link here. The physical edition is available through a Kickstarter campaign, which can be found here.
I will keep you all updated on that as things develop.

If anyone is interested, I have a story-related worldbuilding site that can be found here. I don't update it as often as I should, but there is a fair amount of content there already. It also contains a page with all the fanart, fan translations, audio books and the like - you can reach it directly by clicking this link.
I have a patreon account for those kind people that want to give me money. It also contains info for those who want to donate via paypal.
The story was originally posted on fictionpress, back in 2011. When I reached chapter 91, I started uploading the story to RoyalRoad, one chapter per day. The Fictionpress version of the story can be reached by clicking on this link if somebody is interested, though at this point there is nothing there that isn't also on RoyalRoad.

Worth the read

Well written story, well designed, well implemented and no jarring suspension of disbelief issues
Also well edited which on an informal platform like this is far rarer a commodity than a good story
The only problems are inconsistent pacing (some portions go on and on describing minutia while other portions gloss over important scenes) and that some parts of the story are a slog (which might be intended, I'm sure they were a slog for the mc after all)

Deserving of First Place

A unique story that instantly ensares you with a unique magic system, and a mysterious loop, with the only lead being a dangerous tine traveler that might be under the control of a far more sinister force. In the first read through, the simple mystery leads you forward, always making you guess on what could be next. We watch as Zorian slowly becomes an Archmage, and discovers the secrets of the loop. Even after reading this book half a dozen times I still love it every singl time. It's characters are all unique, the magic system feels organic, and the loop is still amazing and fun.

Amazing!

Such an amazing story with crazy world building and relatable characters that have there own flaws and things to overcome. It was obvious from start to finish that the story was written with an end in mind and it helped with the continuity of the plot. Had no problems with grammar, maybe a typo here and there but unless your really nitpicking it's not an issue. Overall really enjoyed this story from start to finish and highly recommend diving in.

My title showed itself, that's all you need to know. I first reading it on Fiction Press, & that's was one of my happiest day. This book has given me fantastical journey through the years. It will be long and wordy, and some of you might get bored. But bear with it till the end, and you'll find yourself one of the most beautiful gem.

Best fiction ever!

This was the best fiction I have ever read in my whole life, thank you for making this book, I read it for many years, nowadays i am an adult but at time I was a teenager, and this book always reminds me of those times, so i appreciate your effort.

Original and Well Written
You don't find a lot of time travel stories here on RR. Here, this work is fairly unique. New. It's also well written. Every chapter delivers consistently. Easy 5.

Best work of literature I have ever read

I must have read this novel in under two weeks because this has been the most well written piece of literature I have ever set my eyes upon. Yes there are grammar mistakes and Zorion and Zach’s names are switched sometimes but this is a miracle and it deserves every bit of praise and appreciation it gets

Pretty Good

Great story! It may just be due to a lack of reading bestuseller.com novels, but i find it really good compared to other stuff i've read, such as the majority of translated Chinese novels.
Mother of learning, despite being fairly short for my standards is quite short, but i enjoyed the growth process and the development of the characters. Despite Zorian and Zach spending years in a time loop, they were able to stay sane, despite their changes they still retained their origial nature. Zorian stayed cautious, cowardly, Zach stayed rechless and brash, it was nice to see them not become some dull, omnipotent god

Great Read Loved Every Chapter

Loved the story read the entire thing throughout around a month and a half. Over the course of the novel you can also see the author improve on their writing skills which is a great thing to see because it makes you feel like the author is developing themselves over the course of story and not just the characters in them.

A fun time travel romp
Reviewed at: New story is out - Zenith of Sorcery
This story is a pretty fun romp through an original fantasy universe (with a heft dose of DnD inspiration).
Twists and turns aplenty, cool villains, interesting side characters, and I like the fact that our protagonist is the secondary hero of the story.
Can be a bit slow in places, and some of the visual descriptions are a bit sparse for my liking, but overall an enjoyable and competent story.
