How scoring works

Who scores what in a round, with worked examples, and how a game ends.

These are the points a game starts with. The host can change them before the game begins; the rules reference has the full list.

The idea

The storyteller wants some of the table to find their card, but not everyone. A clue that everybody gets is too plain; a clue that nobody gets is too obscure. Everyone else wants to find the storyteller’s card, and to lure the others to their own.

A round’s points

What happened The storyteller Each player who found the card Everyone else
Some found it, but not all 3 3 0
Everybody found it 0 2 (nobody)
Nobody found it 0 (nobody) 2

Bluffs score too. Whatever happened, every player (not the storyteller) scores 1 for each person who guessed their card instead of the storyteller’s.

A guess on a card that came straight from the deck scores nobody.

Worked examples

Five players. Maya tells the story. Ben and Chloe find Maya’s card. Dev guesses Ben’s card, and Esme guesses Ben’s card too.

Four players. Everyone finds Ben’s card.

Four players. Nobody finds Chloe’s card. Maya’s card draws two guesses and Dev’s one.

At a big table

From nine players, a single bluff can earn at most 3 in a round, so the game does not turn into a lottery on whose card drew the crowd.

How a game ends

The game ends when someone reaches 30 points. The round in which that happens is scored in full, so more than one player can pass 30 in it. The highest score wins; if the top scores are level, the win is shared.

At nine players or more, the game ends instead when everyone has been storyteller once. The Party way to play ends after two rounds for each player, and the Quick one at 20 points.
