Terms of use

The agreement between you and FlickerTale when you play. Short, because the game is free and asks nothing of you but good company.

Who we are

FlickerTale is run by [Owner: the operator’s legal name], [Owner: postal address]. These terms apply when you use flickertale.com. By playing, you agree to them; if you do not, please do not use the site.

The game

FlickerTale is free to play. There are no accounts and nothing to buy. We may change the game, add or retire cards, or pause the site to look after it, and we will try not to do any of that in the middle of your game.

The site is provided as it is. We work hard to keep it running and fair, but we cannot promise it will always be available, free of mistakes, or suitable for any particular purpose.

Playing together

• Be kind. What you type (your name at the table, your clues) is shown to everyone at your table, including on the big screen. Follow the content policy.
• The host looks after the table. The person or screen that set the table can remove a player and end a game.
• Children are welcome at a family table. A child should play with a grown-up who knows the site is being used.
• Do not misuse the site. No attempts to break into it, overload it, get around its limits, or use it to reach people who did not invite you.

What you type

Your names and clues stay yours. So that the game can work, you let us show them to your table and keep them for the length of the game, as privacy describes. Nothing you type is kept after the game or used for anything else.

House players

House players are played by the computer; some think with Claude, an AI made by Anthropic. Their clues are made by a machine and can be odd or wrong; they are part of a game, not advice.

The cards and the site

The card paintings are shared under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (see credits). Everything else on the site (its name, design, text and code) belongs to [Owner: the operator’s legal name], unless the credits say otherwise.

Responsibility

Nothing in these terms limits a right you have by law that cannot be limited. Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for any loss that comes from using the site, and our total responsibility to you is limited to [Owner: the cap the policy generator recommends].

The law

These terms are governed by the law of [Owner: jurisdiction], and disputes go to the courts of [Owner: jurisdiction], unless the law where you live gives you the right to go to your own courts.
